This was such a sweet morning to photograph. What started as a walk along the beach turned into a surprise proposal, followed by champagne, their two dogs running around the sand, and plenty of time to celebrate being newly engaged.
He had a picnic waiting by the water, and once they made their way down to the beach, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She said yes, of course!

A Surprise Proposal by the Water
After the initial excitement (and lots of admiring the ring), they sat down at the picnic to pop some champagne and take everything in.
I love when there’s a little bit of time built in after a proposal for exactly this reason. There’s so much genuine excitement happening in those first few minutes, and some of the sweetest photos come from simply letting the two of you enjoy the fact that you’re officially engaged.
And, of course, their dogs had to be part of the celebration too.

A Morning on the Jersey Shore
After the picnic, we wandered down toward the water and turned the rest of the morning into a newly engaged session.
We walked barefoot along the shoreline, let the dogs run through the sand, danced by the water, and explored the beach together. The wind coming off the ocean gave us plenty to work with, especially with her dress and hair, and the soft, cloudy morning made the whole beach feel extra peaceful.
By that point, the nerves of the proposal were completely gone and they could just have fun together. There was lots of laughing, running around, dancing, and stopping every so often to look at that new ring again.

Thinking About Proposing on the Beach?
If you’re planning a surprise proposal, you really don’t need to turn it into a huge production for it to feel special.
I loved how personal this one was. A quiet morning at the beach, a picnic and champagne waiting afterward, their dogs there to celebrate with them, and nowhere they needed to rush off to once she said yes.
And if you want the proposal photographed, I’m always happy to help with the planning beforehand. We can figure out the location, timing, where I’ll be, and all of those little logistics ahead of time so that when the moment comes, all you have to think about is asking the question.
