Weddings and Elopements

Jul 11

A full weekend in Washington, D.C. made the perfect setting for Caroline and Dane’s wedding celebration. From an intimate welcome gathering the night before to portraits among some of the city’s most iconic architecture, their weekend felt equal parts elegant, personal, and full of life.

The Welcome Party

The celebrations began the night before the wedding with a relaxed welcome party surrounded by family and friends. It was an easygoing start to the weekend, giving everyone a chance to settle in, spend time together, and celebrate Caroline and Dane before the wedding day officially began.

Between dinner, drinks, and plenty of candid moments around the table, the evening set the tone for everything that followed.

Getting Ready at Riggs Washington DC

Wedding morning began at Riggs Washington DC, where Caroline and Dane got ready separately with their closest friends and family.

Caroline’s morning unfolded among the hotel’s richly detailed interiors, from her lace wedding dress hanging against the patterned walls to the smaller details scattered throughout the room. After getting dressed, she shared a few quiet moments with her family and bridesmaids before heading downstairs.

Meanwhile, Dane spent the morning getting ready with his groomsmen before everyone made their way to the Homer Building for the ceremony.

A Homer Building Wedding Ceremony

Caroline and Dane exchanged vows in the soaring atrium of the Homer Building in downtown Washington, D.C. Surrounded by their family and friends, the ceremony paired the building’s grand architecture with florals and simple details that kept the focus on the two of them.

After their ceremony, guests made their way upstairs for cocktail hour while Caroline and Dane had a few moments to take everything in as newlyweds.

Rooftop Cocktail Hour

Cocktail hour continued on the rooftop of the Homer Building, overlooking downtown Washington, D.C.

Guests mingled outside while Caroline and Dane spent time with their families and wedding party before slipping away for portraits around the city.

Wedding Portraits at the Lincoln Memorial

For their newlywed portraits, we headed toward the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool.

The monumental architecture created such a beautiful contrast with Caroline’s lace gown and Dane’s suit, while the soft evening light gave us room for a mix of movement, quieter portraits, and a few windswept moments with Caroline’s veil.

It was one of those distinctly D.C. settings that immediately grounded their wedding photographs in the city where they chose to celebrate.

Dinner, Toasts, and Dancing

Back at the Homer Building, the evening transitioned into dancing beneath the atrium.

As daylight disappeared from the space, the celebration took on an entirely different energy. Caroline and Dane danced surrounded by their guests before the dance floor opened for the night.

From champagne and cake to packed dance-floor moments and the beautifully imperfect aftermath of a full celebration, the evening was the perfect ending to their Washington, D.C. wedding weekend.
