Maria and Ahshiyn’s session was one of those evenings that just kept getting better as the sun went down. We met at Station 18 on Sullivan’s Island, just outside of Charleston, South Carolina, and spent the evening wandering between the dunes, boardwalk, and beach, basically chasing the light until there wasn’t much left.
A Couples Session at Station 18 on Sullivan’s Island
We started near the dunes while everything was still warm and golden before making our way down to the water. Maria and Ahshiyn were so easy together, which made it really fun to play around with a mix of more intentional portraits and the completely unplanned moments in between.
There was a lot of running, laughing, spinning around, getting picked up, and eventually getting completely soaked in the ocean. They were down for pretty much anything, which is always when some of my favorite photos happen.
One of my favorite things about photographing couples at Sullivan’s Island is how much variety you can get without ever really leaving the beach. The dunes and greenery around Station 18 gave us one look, the boardwalk gave us another, and then everything changed again once we made our way out onto the open beach.

As the sun started getting lower, we headed toward the water and let the rest of the evening unfold from there. The light was SO good, especially once the sun dropped closer to the horizon and everything took on that warm golden glow.
We kept things playful and moved around a ton, running along the shoreline, dancing, and making the most of the last little bit of sunlight. I love how these photos feel like an actual evening at the beach together rather than something overly planned.

And of course, we didn’t stop when the sun disappeared.
Some of my favorite images from the entire session came afterward, when the beach got quieter and everything shifted into those soft, muted blue-hour tones. Maria and Ahshiyn headed into the water, fully committed at this point, and we ended the session running around in the waves until there was barely any light left.
Completely worth staying a little longer.
